Congratulations to Michelle and her SDM bred gelding, Master Lucky Kaweah, on their success in 2015
The Landmark Leicht's CIA 3 year old challenge saw 11 competitors competing for a $5,000 prize pool.
It was 18-year-old Leah Read and the buckskin gelding Master Lucky Kaweah (Master Kaweah x Whinstanes Lady Luck) purchased by Michelle Hebbard from SDM Quarter Horses in 2013 for only $750 who was the eventual winner of this event paying $2,000 to the winner. Leah was thrilled with the win describing it as "Bloody wonderful". Michelle described Master Lucky Kaweah as a woolley little gelding when they bought him and a another SDM horse for the grand total of $1500 back in 2013. When asked what Master Lucky Kaweah was worth now or if she would ever sell him the answer was "Priceless and never!" Ms Hebbard was also full of praise of the late Susan Marchant former principal of SDM Quarter Horses Goondiwindi QLD whose foresight in genetics is being enjoyed by many in the industry now.

One Time Royalty, Cox Top PCCHA Classic Open- Quarter Horse News
Written by Mark Thompson, 29th October 2012
One Time Royalty and Lloyd Cox pushed the 5-year-old stallion's earnings over $445,000 Monday night in Paso Robles, Calif., winning the Classic Open and earning $14,1661 at the Pacific Coast Cutting Horse Association Futurity with a 229 finish.
The 2010 National Cutting Horse Association Open Champion duo with a record 230 score secured their second high-profile limited-age victory this year at their last event of the season. They also increased their earnings as a duo above $170,000 for 2012, despite a lighter schedule than other horses required by "Royal's" job as a breeding stallion.
One Time Royalty and Cox won the Classic Open title at the Breeder's Invitational in May. At the time it was the first victory for either since the pair's December, 2010 debut at the NCHA Futurity in Fort Worth, Texas. Cox has also won several 2012 events with 2008 stallion Hottish, who will finish second in the 2012 NCHA Open Horse of the Year race.
Hottish (Spots Hot x Stylish Play Lena x Docs Stylish Oak) the 2008 stallion owned by Dustin and Deena Adams, Dublin, Texas, missed Saturday's Cutting Stakes Open finals earlier Monday, following he and Cox's two-go 214.5-219-433.5 effort. It took a 434 composite score to make Saturday's 15-horse Cutting Stakes Open finals.
One Time Royalty (One Time Pepto x Royal Serena Belle x Shorty Lena) and Cox, based in Fort Morgan, Colo., compete whenever the horse is not busy with his breeding duties. His responsibilities include providing plenty of shipped semen to owner Susan Marchant's SDM Quarter Horses facility in Goodiwindi, Queensland, Australia.
Marchant bought the stallion in August, 2011, from original owner Matthews Cutting Horses, Weatherford, Texas. She also now owns two fillies and a colt sired by One Time Royalty, with all three born in Australia during early October. During a recent interview, she told Quarter Horse News One Time Royalty will "probably compete through his 6-year-old season and then retire." She added she has not ruled out Cox competing again with the stallion later, on a limited basis, as an any-age horse.
"Yes, he will compete next year," Marchant said. She doesn't want the young stallion "worked into the ground," but said she trusts Cox's judgment. "I'll leave where he goes [as a cutting competitor] up to Lloyd." The top three scores in Monday's two-set, 18-horse Classic Open finals came during the nine-horse second set. Reserve Champion Stylish Scotti (Peptos Stylish Oak x Lenas Scotti x Bobby Jo Badger), a 6-year-old mare owned by Lisa and Tim Haldane, Tuscon, Ariz., carried Esparta, Calif., trainer Andrew Coates to a 227 leading off the second set. The eventual No. 2 finish worth $11,408 pushed Stylish Scotti's career earnings to about $60,000.
One Time Royalty wins Breeder's Invitational Open Classic/Challenge
June 15, 2012 - 2010 NCHA Futurity Champion One Time Royalty claims his second championship, marking a 224.5 to win the Breeder's Invitational Open Classic/Challenge in Tulsa, Okla., USA.
Trainer Lloyd Cox showed One Time Royalty, owned by SDM Quarter Horses, to earn $34,752 for his Classic/Challenge championship. The stallion also placed third in the "Special 5" 5-year-old division and earned an additional $23,978, increasing his career earnings to $390,869.
The young, athletic stallion (One Time Pepto x Royal Serena Belle x Shorty Lena) was thrust into the spotlight when he won the 2010 NCHA Open Futurity, marking a record-setting 230. He has since been a finalist in many events, including placing third in the 2012 Bonanza Classic and the 2012 Super Stakes Classic/Challenge.
Owner Susan Marchant of SDM Quarter Horses feels privileged to own the young superstar and is excited about bringing his genetics to Australia. "It's an honour to own such a talented stallion. After purchasing him last year, I decided to leave him in the States to progress with his career; and, it has paid off," said Marchant. "He's a beautiful and extremely athletic horse, and I'm excited to offer him to the Australian breeding market."
Since Marchant's purchase of One Time Royalty, he has kept on competing, but has also taken periodic breaks to fulfill substantial breeding commitments in two continents. Frozen Semen is currently available to the Australian market through SDM Quarter Horses.
One Time Royalty will get one more chance this season to push his earnings over the $400,000 mark when he competes in July's NCHA Summer Spectacular in Forth Worth, Texas.
SDM Quarter Horses is a first-class breeding operation located in Goondiwindi, Queensland, providing horses for the astute breeder. "One Time Royalty" Purchased by SDM Quarter Horses
September 9, 2011 - SDM Quarter Horses, Goondiwindi, QLD, is proud to report the purchase of 2010 NCHA Open Futurity Champion One Time Royalty from Matthews Cutting Horses of Weatherford, Texas, USA. The 2007 stallion (One Time Pepto x Royal Serena Belle, by Shorty Lena) earned the highest scoring run (230) in the history of the NCHA Futurity this past December when ridden by Colorado trainer Lloyd Cox to the Open Futurity Championship.
Susan Marchant, owner of SDM Quarter Horses, expressed her intent to have Cox continue showing One Time Royalty in the United States for at least the remainder of his 4-year old year; while the stallion will stand to a limited book of mares in Australia during the 2011 Australian breeding season. SDM Quarter Horses will also stand One Time Royalty in the United States in 2012 to a limited book of approved mares.
Jeffrey Matthews, of Matthews Cutting Horses, who also owns the horse's sire, One Time Pepto, said he is extremely pleased with the transaction. "The demand (from breeders) for One Time Pepto in Australia and internationally has been significant and growing rapidly," he explained. "Since we only breed a very limited number of mares in Australia each year. I think One Time Royalty will be a very viable alternative for bringing the bloodline to Australian breeders." Matthews added that he, too, intends to breed some of his own mares to One Time Royalty.
To date, One Time Royalty has lifetime earnings of $265,467 and was one of One Time Pepto's first foal crop in 2007. Since their debut in the show pen in 2010, 71 performers of that crop have earned $1,229,868.41 in NCHA and NRCHA competition. One Time Pepto made history at the 2010 NCHA Futurity by siring both the Open and Non-Pro Futurity Champions, something no other sire has accomplished in the same year.
